In my opinion, our First Annual Fanfiction Awards was a great success! We had many nominees, and lots of winners. Nile, Keva, and I want to thank all of you that nominated, seconded, and voted. Now, when you see the stories that were nominated and those that won, you'll find an award that shows what they accomplished as well. Despite some drama, I think our first Awards season went very well.
Also! Our new layout is up and running (as if you hadn't noticed, lol) thanks to our amazing Nile, who spends so much time making sure we're all happy. Thanks so much, Nile!
For a quick list of our winners, here's the throw-down:
*Best Action/Adventure: "Seven Feudal Fairy Tales" - ladybattousai
*Best Angst/Drama: "Hallowed Desire" - Demonlordlover
*Best Romantic: "Hallowed Desire" - Demonlordlover
*Best Novella: "Hallowed Desire" - Demonlordlover
*Best Alternate Universe (AU): "Hallowed Desire" - Demonlordlover

Oh, this is very nice. I like the lay-out a lot! Two of my favorite things.. dark blue and Sesshomaru. Haha. :] Good job with it and the awards.
The same two fics won in seven out of nine categories, and were often one of only two final nominees in each category. I'm not sure I would call this a success. I think we need to come up with a way to get more people, and fics, involved in this or there's no point. Why not just give awards to the most popular stories? Wait, that's exactly what happened.
Apologies if I sound unduly bothered, but I (personally) don't believe a mere two nominees per category ought to be enough to vote on.
For us, for a first time, it will do, but we hope next year will turn out better. It all depends on who is participating and is nominating. The Yahoo! Group for this community started way too late. I should have started it when the site opened, that way all nominations and such could be done. For me, opening an efiction site is new, but not moderating. However, I do agree that it was not as good as turnout as I would have liked, but hopefully with more work, next year's nominees will be more extensive.
Do you think there should be seconding? A lot of nominees had been weeded out on the second nomination.
While I agree that the lack of nominees lessens the award's value, I think it's folly to be annoyed with the award group for the community's failing in participating in the event.
There was plenty of advertising and a month was provided for nominations and seconding. If readers choose to only read fiction and not act to recognize the work that goes into it, then this is the result.
Not to mention, most other award groups suffered from the same lack of nominees when they began as well. Just look at the earliest sessions for the Feudal Association.
I would like to see more myself, but I think participation will be a constant issue until the site becomes larger. Or the members are bribed with some incentive (which I find mildly insulting that they would need to be).
I just want to say (as one who nominated/seconded/voted for most of the works that won, that I did NOT do any of it because it was popular. That is the last thing on my mind. The pieces that - as Griddlebone pointed out - "won in seven out of nine categories" were well-written, creative, and had excellent spelling and grammar. THAT was what I meant when I said it was a success - that the winners were, in fact, excellent pieces of fanfiction, which is why were are here. Had some more of the popular ones won, the contest would have been a failure, as not everyone here has good judgement of spelling and grammar.
There are always going to be things that need to be changed after a first-year awards season, as Nile said. But with limited members in the Yahoo! group, there wasn't much we could do. As ladybattousai pointed out, it is our communities' fault if it did not fare better.
*And Nile, I don't think - personally - that secondin is necessary, but maybe we should put THAT to a vote as well?*
Essentially apart from for these small gowns with stylish embellidoesshments, why don"t you endeavor a mermaid promenade robe. A few of the choices may well appear like small communion dtheresses. girls communion gowns, fake watches for sale fake watches for sale Also you
Thank you so much for the nominations, seconds and the wins that I received for my story. I'm extremely flattered :D
The website looks fabulous. Very clean and I find the new color palette really appealing. Blue is a nice change. It doesn't hurt that it's Sesshoumaru themed either, even though I do like Inuyasha almost as much.
