Summary:

Ten years before the Shikon Jewel returned to Sengoku Jidai, there was a band of ruthless mercenaries who roamed the lands in search of their next job during the era of what was a never ending cycle of wars.

After they are worn out from one excruciating battle, Bankotsu finds himself taking on a job which ensnares the mercenaries in the middle of a rivalry between two Daimyo.

One of my biggest pet peeves with the English dub is that they kept calling Bankotsu’s weapon a “halberd”- it’s actually a weapon called a Zanbato which translates to “horse slayer”. When I read about it, the size of the weapon suddenly made more sense as I imagine cavalry to be the bane of his existence; so he opts for a weapon that can take out a group of them at a time.
